Washington

The rounded varieties, which are very commercial, were first discovered in Salvador in 1822 as a result of natural mutation, and the US ambassador sent a sapling to Washington D.C. and the US administration sent the plant to California. Here, rigorous research had been performed on the sapling and the variety. The plant's name, being called the plant that came from Washington D.C, has remained as Washington. It is the kind that reaches ripeness in December and January and it is unrivaled on the table. The only disadvantage is that it is sensitive to the stapborn virus, which is also called BAHIA. It is also called thorny Washington in our country because of its long thorns during the sapling phase. Washington is an important rounded orange in Navel Brazil. It was produced from Bahia orange mutation in 1907. It is an oval and a sweet juicy variety, easily peeled. A quality product can be obtained especially on troyer rootstock. Its greatest feature is its resistance to the post-harvest diseases.

According to this, the fruit diameter varies between 74-78 mm, the length between 76-80 mm and the fruit weight between 165-240 gr. This variety, whose fruit juice ratio is between 38-46%, can stay on the tree for a long time since it has pips. The harvest season is March-April, and it is suitable to consume as eating* or as juice.

It is a variety that has periodicity.
